I wrote an eBook, and here's Why...
Nov 13, 2024So, why the eBook . . .
I Coach and Consult with Junior Leaders, Senior Executives and all levels in between. Pretty much every Leader new to a role worries about the same thing, irrespective of their position.
They are living the infamous (and scary) “drinking from the firehose” phenomenon: receiving too much information, of a disparate nature, from people they don’t yet know and cannot yet trust. In short, they are drowning.
And while the scale of the challenge might be different for a new C-Suite member compared to a freshly minted, first time Junior Leader, the basics of the phenomenon are the same.
Which is the reason I’ve put together this eBook, “Your First Hundred Days, a Roadmap for New Leader Success.”
Here’s the thing: Leadership is a craft which can be honed through awareness and practice.
And it's normal to feel overwhelmed in a new Leadership job. After all, expectations are high. There’s a ton to learn. Failure is absolutely possible.
Having a framework to help you assimilate information and frame challenges will increase your probability of success while decreasing the stress you feel.
The structure outlined in the eBook, reinforced through exercises, pushes a new Leader to focus on 6 topical categories to support them in their First 100 Days on the job.
These categories are:
1) Team & People: do you have the right people doing the right things in the right way to create value?
2) Customers: who are the Internal/external consumers of your Team’s work and what do they think about your Team?
3) Market: how do you and your Team fit into the broader external environment where threats and opportunities live?
4) Systems & Process: does the internal connective tissue of your organization facilitate or impede effective delivery of value to Customers?
5) Regulatory & Compliance: what are the legal/regulatory “red lines” which you MUST respect?
6) Culture: do you understand the aspirational and lived set of actions, values and beliefs which frame the context of work of the broader organization you are a part of?
This list and the reinforcing exercises in the book are intended as a beginning, not an end. The topics and the questions posed are as relevant on Day 1 of a new role as on Day 1001.
They are a framework to help you parse the information deluge, to assimilate that information into logical subgroups of knowledge, which you will then translate into prioritized actions.
I have great respect for those like you with the guts to assume the mantle of Leadership. It is my hope that this little book helps you answer the all important question, “where do I even start?”.
You will find the book on my website at https://www.coaching4executives.com/ebook-yourfirst100days
Of course, if you’d like to discuss directly with me your First 100 Days in a role, or any other topic, I’m happy for you to schedule a complimentary, no-obligation Exploration Session with me.
Wishing you good fortune in your Leadership Journey!
