Why So Many Employees Are Disengaged—And What You Can Do About It
Apr 10, 2025
Each year, GALLUP releases a report on employee engagement across the United States—and the 2024 results are some of the most concerning in a decade.
📉 The 2024 Gallup Engagement Crisis
🔻 Only 31% of employees report being engaged at work.
🔻 Disengagement is highest among workers aged 35 and younger.
🔻 Even managers, the very leaders responsible for inspiring and guiding their teams, are reporting just 31% engagement themselves.
🔻 And perhaps most troubling—17% of employees are actively disengaged, a level we haven’t seen in 10 years.
As alarming as these numbers are, they don’t surprise me.
What I’m Hearing from Clients
In my coaching practice, I work with leaders and individual contributors across a wide range of industries. A recurring theme? A growing dissatisfaction with their current roles and a nagging sense that they’re no longer growing—or worse, no longer valued.
Many clients express:
- Unclear expectations in their roles
- A sense that their contributions aren’t appreciated
- A belief that their organization doesn’t care about their growth or development
It doesn’t matter whether they’re part of the C-suite, mid-level leadership, or early-career professionals—many are quietly wondering if it’s time for a change.
A Structured Guide to Change: Making Your Own Luck
It doesn’t have to be this way. There is always a door. You just have to be willing to look for the handle.
That’s why I created Making Your Own Luck: A Job and Career Change Acceleration Workbook.
Whether you’re contemplating a job change or craving deeper meaning in your current work, this workbook (and its companion videos) offers a practical, structured process for:
- Evaluating your current situation
- Clarifying your values, interests, and strengths
- Overcoming fear and self-doubt
- Updating your personal brand and professional network
- Mapping out a plan to pursue meaningful work
This isn’t just about finding a new job—it’s about finding alignment between your career and who you are at your core.
Because the truth is: we spend more time working than we do with our families. Shouldn’t that time be meaningful? Shouldn’t you be doing work that energizes you and uses the best of what you have to offer?
